The 2020 Summer Olympics Games has finally begun. After a long delay due to the pandemic, the competition is taking place in Tokyo, Japan, where players representing their own countries can display all of their hard work to have a medal hanging around their necks. There are countless of inspirational stories from athletes that have broken world records, have won numerous medals, and have overcome several obstacles. But here is one that is worth mentioning.

Tatjana Schoenmaker set a new Olympic record in the 200m breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics. That’s already impressive, but there is another remarkable detail in her story. After the race was over, as Tatjana Schoenmaker celebrated her accomplishment, she removed her green swim cap, which represents South Africa, to show the world her faith in God. Beneath that green swim cap, there was another one with the following words: “Soli Deo Gloria,” which means “Glory to God.” When she drew the cameras’ and crowd’s attention, she made sure to redirect that spotlight to God, so the world would know that God is the one worthy of receiving all the glory.

It is easy to get distracted in the middle of success and forget about our God, but I encourage you to always remember to give glory to God in your highs and lows, and to always redirect people to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
