Do you know which country is apparently considered the happiest place in the world? I recently came across with a news article titled “The World’s Happiest Countries for 2022,” and I was eager to find out the top happiest place in the world to relocate for ministry as soon as possible. To my surprise, according to World Happiness Report, Finland has been selected the world’s happiest country for five years in a row based on healthy life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support, low corruption, generosity, and freedom. We should relocate our church in Finland and rename it: Korean Presbyterian Church of Helsinki, Finland’s capital. Just for your information, United States is ranked 16th, Brazil is 38th, Argentina 57th, and South Korea is 59th.
I joked about moving to Finland since it is considered the happiest place in the world. But, will we become happier just by simply moving to Finland? Most humans, including Christians, base their happiness on the environment and circumstances: happiness is visiting Hawaii, happiness is going to Miami Beach, happiness is eating ice cream, happiness is finding $20 my pockets, and so on. Sure, they do make us very happy, right? But why base our happiness on unstable and temporary earthly things when we could experience that from and through God, who is our eternal source and foundation of joy? May you find God as your happiest place.
