“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”

                 Rev. Aaron Kwon

“Dae-han-min-guk” clap clap clap clap clap. This is the most famous South Korean soccer chant. It literally means “Republic of Korea.” Just a few days ago, as the World Cup began, this popular soccer chant is being heard all around the world again, including within our church’s building. This past Thursday, as we watched the match between Korea and Czechia, the sound of “Dae-han-min-guk” was echoing within our walls. We had children, youth, young adults, adults, Koreans, non-Koreans, Christians, and non-Christians, all cheering for our beloved South Korea.

Although it might have looked like a regular gathering to simply watch a soccer game, as a church, we had another meaningful purpose in mind; to extend an invitation to those who still do not have fellowship with the Father. As a church, we want to use this big platform as an opportunity to reach the unreached, so that they will also have the opportunity to know Christ and have fellowship with Him.

There’s this hymn called “Leaning of the everlasting arms”

by E. A. Hoffman, which declares the following in the first verse, “What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms; what a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms.” Just as you and I enjoy this lovely fellowship with God, may others get to experience that same fellowship through our invitation and service.
